Yet, her love towards art eventually encouraged her to follow her heart. Therefore, she decided to pursue an artistic journey. We love and admire her values in life so we invited her to customize the Lomo'Instant Automat Bora Bora.

Hi! Please introduce yourself to the Lomography Community.

Hello everyone! I’m Clarissa Veronica. I’m a passionate illustrator and proud owner of the artsy lifestyle brand, "Start From The Bottom." I would depict my illustrations as a celebration of life, a play of bright and vibrant colors that reflect not just my personality, but also the dynamic, colorful world around me. I’m originally from Jakarta, but I have followed my husband to the enchanting rural area of North Sumatera, specifically a charming town called Panyabungan. This transition has enriched my life and work in innumerable ways.

What is your origin story as an artist?

The younger me was captivated by the power of a pencil or a brush, creating stories and worlds from my imagination. However, the practicalities of life led me to pursue a business major at Bandung Institute of Technology. I believed it was the safe and expected path, but my heart always held onto my love for art.

Upon graduation, I found myself standing at a crossroad. That's when a dream began to unfold, a dream of creating my own artsy lifestyle brand. I was intrigued by the idea of combining my love for drawing with my newly acquired business skills. This was the start of my true artistic journey.

Can you tell us more about your art style and your vision as an artist?

My art style is characterized by colorful, whimsical illustrations that are both eye-catching and engaging. I have a deep love for creating happy vibes in my art, often sprinkling in a dose of humor to bring a smile to the viewer's face.

Tell us more about how you designed this artwork to dress the Lomo'Instant Automat. How did you conceptualize your project and what was the process like?

When tasked with designing artwork for the Lomo'Instant Automat, I was pleasantly surprised by the serendipitous alignment between the camera and my latest brand collection, "Never Too Old Roll." Both embrace the philosophy of living life to the fullest, regardless of one's age. Inspired by this shared message, I chose to draw objects related to childhood memories and included punchlines like "Don't Forget to Have Fun," as gentle reminders to the audience to always embrace the joy in life.

The process was quite different from my usual digital drawing routine and not without its challenges. Using a marker to manually draw on the camera was nerve-wracking. My hands were sweaty throughout the process. But the satisfaction of successfully completing the project, seeing my art physically come to life on the camera body, made all the initial nerves worthwhile.

What was your first impression of the Lomo'Instant Automat? What's the feature you liked most?

I’m soooooooo in love with the camera! It's so light, user-friendly, and has retro vibes embodied to it. We used the Lomo'Instant Automat to document our delightful holiday memories in Medan, the capital city of North Sumatera.

The feature that captivated me the most was its ability to produce instant printed results with Instax film. This instant gratification of seeing my captured moments materialize right before my eyes is pure magic!

Please tell us about the photos you took with the camera.

The photos I captured with the Lomo'Instant Automat center around a culinary adventure that my husband and I embarked on in Medan. We discovered a hidden gem called Alligator Roastery. Despite its modest size, this place is brimming with aesthetic appeal—every corner begs to be photographed. One unique concept they've integrated into their space is the "Slow Bar," which allowed us to leisurely explore every edge of the venue while waiting for our orders. We played arcade games, engaged in small talk with the baristas about coffee preparation, and soaked in melodies from vinyl records.

Each captured image perfectly reflects the joy of these simple yet profoundly happy moments. The camera not only encapsulated the visual beauty of Alligator Roastery but also managed to imbue the photos with the joy of that day.

Which photo do you like the most?

While I cherish each photo we took for its unique charm, one in particular stands out for me. It's a photo of my husband sitting on a distinctive yellow chair in the front yard of the café. What I love most about this shot is how the outdoor sunlight accentuates the details, resulting in a sharper image compared to the rest. It perfectly captures the uniqueness of the yellow chair and, not to mention, my husband's photogenic charm! It's a snapshot that beautifully weaves together our shared joy and the vivid surroundings, all captured through the lens of the Lomo'Instant Automat. It's a photo that always brings a smile to my face, reminding me of the delight of that day.
